     Whitewater paddling is nice on Cahaba River; if you're visiting from Birmingham-Hoover, you won't be the only one. And that's not all you can do here at White Lake. If you need a place to stay Holiday Inn Express CALERA-I-65 EXIT 231 is a great choice, and not far from White Lake you'll hit upon Woodmere Number One Lake which is a striking lake. At White Lake all through the months of summer highs are in the 90's, and all through summer nights temperatures  
   are in the 60's. The cold days of the winter come with highs in the 50's while the cold winter nights at White Lake are in the 30's. If you're a golfer then a wonderful close by course is Ballantrae Golf Club; close by you find pleasant spots like Butler Hollow.
White Lake frequently gets a great deal of rainfall; all through March this area sees the most rain; October is the month with the least moisture. Camping is available at KOA Birmingham South, and a tremendous
 
               place to camp here at White Lake is Pelham Koa Kampground. This lake is so wonderful.
This lake is so wonderful. White Lake Dam has delightful water scenery and it's near White Lake; a wonderful nearby hotel is Hampton Inn Calera. Yellowleaf Creek - North Fork has a good whitewater paddling spot nearby, and since you might be in a lake visiting mood you can always check out close by Green Valley Lake.

Just stopped here on our way north from the Florida panhandle.? Great stopover spot, extemely convenient to I-65.? Clean, neat campground, great bathrooms and showers, friendly, well-informed staff, and the area has all the basics travelers like us are interested in---food, shopping, RV stores, food, food, etc.? I know this would also be a nice spot for a longer stay....

...nder their belt could handle this section. The only bad part was the long flats inbetween the rapids. I was lucky in that I timed my trip two days after a heavy rain so the current was nice and steady. If not for that I would have been exhausted from paddling across the flats. Luckily the scenery is good and there is plenty of wildlife to enjoy. The put in at Lovic bridge is tricky. Its a pretty steep grade and full of mud and sand. I ended up just getting in my canoe and slidding down the hill into the water. Thats a good way to flip so take a friend and you could rope your boat down much easier. The take out at Grants Mill is alot nicer. It has a nice gravel parking lot and a concrete ramp down to the river with a concrete docking pad in the water. You NEED to go look at the take out before you go on your trip though. The take out is nice but its positioned weirdly. You come down river to it after your last rapid and if the water is up or moving along well then you really have to back paddle to make the docking pad.
