     Vining Pond is a great spot to visit for more than one day, Glen Iris Campground is a great spot to camp nearby, and a good close by hotel is Greystone Inn and Suites. Lakeside RV Park is a magnificent local campground, and this is a popular place for people from Tuscaloosa. So many enjoyable things to do at Vining Pond, so little time. Lakes? Sure, Lake Lulu is in close proximity; wonderful hiking is available along the Payne Lake Nature Trail. Wingate by  
   Wyndham Tuscaloosa is a great place to get some rest; there's always Vining Pond Dam to check out near Vining Pond.
All through the long summer days, highs regularly are in the 90's at Vining Pond, and the night is rather chillier of course, typically in the 60's. This lake has been around for a long time. Years ago, before the I-20/59 interstate was built, it was indeed a great place to fish as I understand it. Now the lake is full of vegetation and difficult to fish or navigate a boat. Also difficult to enter and launch a boat as the roads leading in are washed out and muddy....

The East Campground is primitive ... no potable water and one porta-pottie in the inner circle loop. This side might be closed for a while in 2009 for renovations. I would contact them before coming....
