Schmitt Lake is a good site to visit for more than one day, Alabama WMU Camp is a good site to camp nearby, and Nash Lake is a nearby lake that you could stop at. This lake is so wonderful. There's some flowing water nearby, Big Branch is a stream you can pop by while you're here, and a lake close by is Cedar Lake. Schmitt Lake is a place with many visitors from Birmingham-Hoover; there's some exciting stuff to spot at Schmitt Dam close to Schmitt Lake. That

| | right there is loads already, but it continues; Schmitt Lake has it all. After a long day outdoors Days Inn Leeds is a magnificent location to spend a night or two, and whitewater paddling is not for everyone but if it's for you then, we recommend Cahaba River.

Park is a delightful campground nearby, and nearby Lowry Gap is a nice place to go. This lake is so wonderful.
Through the warm days of summer at Schmitt Lake temperatures are mostly in the 80's. When the night sets in temperatures
plunge down into the 60's. Daytime highs during the winter are in the 50's, and during the dark hours in the winter at Schmitt Lake temperatures plunge to the 30's. Americas Best Value Inn Leeds/Birmingham is a wonderful place to get some rest, and golf can be played at Trussville Country Club.

| ...by the current. And one was just a long series of wide wave trains. I did enjoy the rapids but even a novice paddler with a few trips under their belt could handle this section. The only bad part was the long flats inbetween the rapids. I was lucky in that I timed my trip two days after a heavy rain so the current was nice and steady. If not for that I would have been exhausted from paddling across the flats. Luckily the scenery is good and there is plenty of wildlife to enjoy. The put in at Lovic bridge is tricky. Its a pretty steep grade and full of mud and sand. I ended up just getting in my canoe and slidding down the hill into the water. Thats a good way to flip so take a friend and you could rope your boat down much easier. The take out at Grants Mill is alot nicer. It has a nice gravel parking lot and a concrete ramp down to the river with a concrete docking pad in the water. You NEED to go look at the take out before you go on your trip though.
