There's so much to do here at Riggins Pond that you need to camp here for a while, Alabama WMU Camp is a good place for that. This lake is so wonderful. There are plenty of people from Birmingham-Hoover here at Riggins Pond. Whitewater paddling is not for everyone but if it's for you then we recommend Cahaba River; Happy Hollow is a splendid place to stop by.

Wild Acres Lake is a nearby lake that you could stop by; Jameson Inn Trussville is a splendid location to get some rest. All through the summertime at Riggins Pond temperatures are regularly in the 80's. Through the dark hours of summer temperatures sink down into the 60's. The winter brings highs down to the 50's while the cold winter nights at Riggins Pond are in the 30's. You'll need more than a day to explore everything Riggins Pond has to offer, you can

             camp at Holiday Travel Park; for you golfers we recommend nearby Trussville Country Club.
Not enough hours in a day to enjoy this place. You can see Talladega Hill from Riggins Pond; hey, Dry Creek is a pleasant local stream. The high level of precipitation makes Riggins Pond a quite wet site; of all the months in a year March is the one with the most rain; October is when it's the driest. This lake is so wonderful. Riggins Pond Dam is gorgeous and it's in close proximity to Riggins Pond, and if you're here, you could also take a look at beautiful Windsong Lake.

... river produced what I would call true rapids. Most of these areas were short two to three foot falls followed by a run produced by the current. And one was just a long series of wide wave trains. I did enjoy the rapids but even a novice paddler with a few trips under their belt could handle this section. The only bad part was the long flats inbetween the rapids. I was lucky in that I timed my trip two days after a heavy rain so the current was nice and steady. If not for that I would have been exhausted from paddling across the flats. Luckily the scenery is good and there is plenty of wildlife to enjoy. The put in at Lovic bridge is tricky. Its a pretty steep grade and full of mud and sand. I ended up just getting in my canoe and slidding down the hill into the water. Thats a good way to flip so take a friend and you could rope your boat down much easier. The take out at Grants Mill is alot nicer. It has a nice gravel parking lot and a concrete ramp down to the river with a concrete docking pad in the water.
