Beautiful Pawnee Reservoir has much to offer visitors. So many fun things in close proximity to Pawnee Reservoir, completely striking. There's always Rock Mountain Lake Dam to pop by in the vicinity of Pawnee Reservoir, and dry warm beds await you at Fairfield Inn and Suites Birmingham Fultondale. Whitewater paddling is not for everybody but if it's for you then we recommend Gurley Creek. A delightful location to camp here at Pawnee Reservoir is Holiday Travel Park; Jackson Gap is a wonderful place to spend some time. down into the 60's. The winter brings highs down to the 50's, and nighttime lows in the 30's for Pawnee Reservoir. Nearby lakes? Sure, North Lake is near Pawnee Reservoir; camping at City of Hoover RV Park is always a fine experience.
This lake is so wonderful. If you need a location to stay Comfort Suites Fultondale is a delightful choice; there are some pleasant whitewater spots on Cahaba River. Pawnee Reservoir sees pretty high levels of precipitation; March is when you get the most rain here, and the driest month is October.

 | ... a few trips under their belt could handle this section. The only bad part was the long flats inbetween the rapids. I was lucky in that I timed my trip two days after a heavy rain so the current was nice and steady. If not for that I would have been exhausted from paddling across the flats. Luckily the scenery is good and there is plenty of wildlife to enjoy. The put in at Lovic bridge is tricky. Its a pretty steep grade and full of mud and sand. I ended up just getting in my canoe and slidding down the hill into the water. Thats a good way to flip so take a friend and you could rope your boat down much easier. The take out at Grants Mill is alot nicer. It has a nice gravel parking lot and a concrete ramp down to the river with a concrete docking pad in the water. You NEED to go look at the take out before you go on your trip though. The take out is nice but its positioned weirdly. You come down river to it after your last rapid and if the water is up or moving along well then you really have to back paddle to make the docking pad.  | 19 miles away Just stopped here on our way north from the Florida panhandle.? Great stopover spot, extemely convenient to I-65.? Clean, neat campground, great bathrooms and showers, friendly, well-informed staff, and the area has all the basics travelers like us are interested in---food, shopping, RV stores, food, food, etc.? I know this would also be a nice spot for a longer stay.... |
