If you don't mind getting dripping wet, you can always go whitewater paddling on Yellowleaf Creek - North Fork, and you'll come across a lovely lake called Lunker Lake. Oak Mountain Lake Dam Number One is a striking location close to Oak Mountain Lake; nearby you hit upon Shackleford Gap which is a perfect place to check out. This lake is so wonderful. If you need a site to stay Candlewood Suites BIRMINGHAM is a wonderful choice, and camping at Pelham Koa Kampground

| | is always a brilliant experience. Oak Mountain Lake is a rather wet place regularly with much rainfall; throughout March this area sees the most rain, and the driest month is October. A great nearby hotel is Homewood Suites by Hilton BirminghamSouth/Inverness; do check out Catfish Lake, it's a pretty lake. Oak Mountain Lake is good enough to spend more than a day at, City of Hoover RV Park is a good local campground, and whitewater paddling is delightful | |

on Cahaba River. At Oak Mountain Lake during the warmest time of the year highs are in the 80's. During the dark hours of summer temperatures dip down into the 60's. The winter comes with highs in the 50's; nighttime lows during the
winter for Oak Mountain Lake tend to be in the 30's. This lake is so wonderful. Yep, outdoors amusing things to do are beyond doubt plentiful here at Oak Mountain Lake. Oak Mountain Lake is not far at all from Birmingham-Hoover, and Greystone Golf and Country Club is a magnificent golf course nearby.

 | Just stopped here on our way north from the Florida panhandle.? Great stopover spot, extemely convenient to I-65.? Clean, neat campground, great bathrooms and showers, friendly, well-informed staff, and the area has all the basics travelers like us are interested in---food, shopping, RV stores, food, food, etc.? I know this would also be a nice spot for a longer stay.... |

 | ...d call true rapids. Most of these areas were short two to three foot falls followed by a run produced by the current. And one was just a long series of wide wave trains. I did enjoy the rapids but even a novice paddler with a few trips under their belt could handle this section. The only bad part was the long flats inbetween the rapids. I was lucky in that I timed my trip two days after a heavy rain so the current was nice and steady. If not for that I would have been exhausted from paddling across the flats. Luckily the scenery is good and there is plenty of wildlife to enjoy. The put in at Lovic bridge is tricky. Its a pretty steep grade and full of mud and sand. I ended up just getting in my canoe and slidding down the hill into the water. Thats a good way to flip so take a friend and you could rope your boat down much easier. The take out at Grants Mill is alot nicer. It has a nice gravel parking lot and a concrete ramp down to the river with a concrete docking pad in the water.
