Alabama has many beautiful lakes and Nash Lake is one of them. Not far from Nash Lake you get some pleasant water scenery at Nash Dam; you'll possibly meet some folks from Birmingham-Hoover here. This lake is so wonderful. Since you might be in a lake visiting mood you can always pop by nearby Schmitt Lake, and if you want to play some golf, you're in luck because Trussville Country Club is close at hand. | | Lake a wet location; March is the wettest month with most rain; October on the other hand is the driest. So many fun things to do at Nash Lake, so little time. Camping is available at Alabama WMU Camp, and if you need a location to stay Best Western Bass Hotel & Suites is a good choice. A good spot to camp here at Nash Lake is Holiday Travel Park. Lakes? Sure, Spring Lake is close by. If you're here, you might as well pop by Moore Gap; get drenched paddling | |

on Cahaba River. This lake is so wonderful. Big Branch is in the neighborhood of Nash Lake and is always a joy to stop by; after a long day outdoors Leeds-Days Inn is a magnificent location to spend a night or two. High temperatures
at Nash Lake throughout the warm days of summer are in the 80's with night lows in the 60's. Throughout the winter highs are in the 50's, and night lows through the winter for Nash Lake tend to be in the 30's.

 | ... I would call true rapids. Most of these areas were short two to three foot falls followed by a run produced by the current. And one was just a long series of wide wave trains. I did enjoy the rapids but even a novice paddler with a few trips under their belt could handle this section. The only bad part was the long flats inbetween the rapids. I was lucky in that I timed my trip two days after a heavy rain so the current was nice and steady. If not for that I would have been exhausted from paddling across the flats. Luckily the scenery is good and there is plenty of wildlife to enjoy. The put in at Lovic bridge is tricky. Its a pretty steep grade and full of mud and sand. I ended up just getting in my canoe and slidding down the hill into the water. Thats a good way to flip so take a friend and you could rope your boat down much easier. The take out at Grants Mill is alot nicer. It has a nice gravel parking lot and a concrete ramp down to the river with a concrete docking pad in the water. You NEED to go look at the take out before you go on your trip though. The take out is nice but... |
