A great location for whitewater paddling right next door to McKelveys Lakes is Six Mile Bend; Baylor Lake is a perfect lake close by. A nice nearby hotel is Value Place Bessemer, and lakes are such peaceful sites, why not check out Griffin Lakes. Camping is available at Mc Calla Koa Kampground, and the good people of Birmingham-Hoover like to hang out close by. This lake is so wonderful. Take a side spree to Cox Spring Branch; wonderful water scenery is available

Tannehill Historical State Park; after a long day outdoors Best Western Hotel & Suites is a magnificent spot to spend a night or two. If you want to play some golf, you're in luck because Frank House Municipal Golf Course is close
by. McKelveys Lakes is a wet place that gets lots of rainfall; the wettest month of the year is mostly March, that's the one that rains the most; October on the other hand is the driest.

 | 12 miles away 1 PHOTO This lake has been around for a long time. Years ago, before the I-20/59 interstate was built, it was indeed a great place to fish as I understand it. Now the lake is full of vegetation and difficult to fish or navigate a boat. Also difficult to enter and launch a boat as the roads leading in are washed out and muddy.... |

Clean, neat campground, great bathrooms and showers, friendly, well-informed staff, and the area has all the basics travelers like us are interested in---food, shopping, RV stores, food, food, etc.? I know this would also be a nice spot for a longer stay.... |
