The beauty of Lake Purdy attracts many people from all around. During your journey to Lake Purdy you'll meet some people from Birmingham-Hoover for sure; since you might be in a lake visiting mood you can always pop by nearby McDavid Lake. Lake Purdy is a relatively wet place ordinarily with a large amount of rainfall; the month of March is the wettest with most of the rain while October is regularly the driest month. Purdy, also Lake Purdy Dam is worth stopping at if you're here. This lake is so wonderful. Camping at City of Hoover RV Park is always a great experience, and a great place for whitewater paddling is Yellowleaf Creek - North Fork.
Why not check out Cox Creek Point also since you're here. Lakes are fine; Lake Dixie is a lake that's close to Lake Purdy. For the period of the warmest time of the year at Lake Purdy highs are mostly in the 80's. Summer night lows
plunge down to the 60's. Highs during the winter are generally in the 50's, and after the sun is down throughout the winter temperatures at Lake Purdy plunge into the 30's. If you need a spot to stay Wingate by Wyndham - Birmingham is a perfect choice, and you can run the rapids of Cahaba River.

 | ...three foot falls followed by a run produced by the current. And one was just a long series of wide wave trains. I did enjoy the rapids but even a novice paddler with a few trips under their belt could handle this section. The only bad part was the long flats inbetween the rapids. I was lucky in that I timed my trip two days after a heavy rain so the current was nice and steady. If not for that I would have been exhausted from paddling across the flats. Luckily the scenery is good and there is plenty of wildlife to enjoy. The put in at Lovic bridge is tricky. Its a pretty steep grade and full of mud and sand. I ended up just getting in my canoe and slidding down the hill into the water. Thats a good way to flip so take a friend and you could rope your boat down much easier. The take out at Grants Mill is alot nicer. It has a nice gravel parking lot and a concrete ramp down to the river with a concrete docking pad in the water.  | 13 miles away Just stopped here on our way north from the Florida panhandle.? Great stopover spot, extemely convenient to I-65.? Clean, neat campground, great bathrooms and showers, friendly, well-informed staff, and the area has all the basics travelers like us are interested in---food, shopping, RV stores, food, food, etc.? I know this would also be a nice spot for a longer stay.... |
