     Norwood Gap is a great place to explore in the vicinity of Johnson Lake; not far from Johnson Lake you'll come across Catfish Lake which is a scenic lake. For the duration of the long summer days highs here at Johnson Lake get into the 90's. Throughout the moonlight hours it's generally in the 60's. Highs through the wintertime are typically in the 50's while Johnson Lake nighttime low temperatures through the winter are in the 20's. This lake is so wonderful.  
   Why not stop at Dream Lake Dam Number One since you're here, and a perfect site to camp here at Johnson Lake is Mc Calla Koa Kampground. There are other places here than Johnson Lake, for example Million Dollar Lake; Best Western Hotel & Suites is a wonderful place to get some rest.
Johnson Lake sees pretty high levels of precipitation; during March this area sees the most rain; the driest month is September. If you come at the right time of year, Six
 
               Mile Bend offers some splendid whitewater. This is no place for people who don’t like to enjoy themselves. A golf course right next door to Johnson Lake is Tannehill National Golf Course, and if you need a site to stay Value Place Bessemer is a great choice.
Johnson Lake is good enough to spend more than a day at, Lucy's Branch L.l.c. is a good local campground; the view of pretty West Red Mountain is fine.

This lake has been around for a long time. Years ago, before the I-20/59 interstate was built, it was indeed a great place to fish as I understand it. Now the lake is full of vegetation and difficult to fish or navigate a boat. Also difficult to enter and launch a boat as the roads leading in are washed out and muddy....
