Why not camp at Joe Wheeler State Park while you're here at Johnson Lake; near Johnson Lake you come across a golf course called Shoals the Golf Course. Since you might be in a lake visiting mood you can always stop at close by Burney Pond; a great close by hotel is Comfort Inn Florence. Johnson Lake mostly gets a lot of rain; of all the months in a year March is the one with the most rain, and October                  on the other hand is the driest.
