     You could also visit Ledbetter Lake if you're here at Hillhouse Lake; it's nearby; if you're going to from Birmingham-Hoover, you won't be the only one. Birmingham Saw Works Lake Dam is a location that is close to Hillhouse Lake, and a brilliant spot to camp here at Hillhouse Lake is Holiday Travel Park. Summertime brings highs in the 80's to Hillhouse Lake. For the duration of the dark hours of summer temperatures sink down into the 60's. The winter brings
highs down to the 50's; through the dark hours in the wintertime at Hillhouse Lake temperatures dip to the 30's. Hillhouse Lake sees pretty high levels of precipitation; the month with most of the rain is March while October is the month with the least amount of precipitation.
This lake is so wonderful. Jess Hollow is a glorious site to look at, and if you've had enough of Hillhouse Lake, Purvis Lake is nearby. Why not camp at Alabama WMU Camp since you're

             here at Hillhouse Lake, and if you want to play some golf, you're in luck because Trussville Country Club is close by. After a long day outdoors Best Western Bass Hotel & Suites is a great place to spend a night or two; whitewater paddling is not for everyone but if it's for you then, we recommend Cahaba River.
What a spot this is for outdoors folks. If you need a place to stay Comfort Inn & Suites is a good choice; if the weather is wonderful, you obtain a great sight of Double Oak Mountain from Hillhouse Lake. This lake is so wonderful. Take a little tour to Double Branch while you're here at Hillhouse Lake.

...nt was nice and steady. If not for that I would have been exhausted from paddling across the flats. Luckily the scenery is good and there is plenty of wildlife to enjoy. The put in at Lovic bridge is tricky. Its a pretty steep grade and full of mud and sand. I ended up just getting in my canoe and slidding down the hill into the water. Thats a good way to flip so take a friend and you could rope your boat down much easier. The take out at Grants Mill is alot nicer. It has a nice gravel parking lot and a concrete ramp down to the river with a concrete docking pad in the water. You NEED to go look at the take out before you go on your trip though. The take out is nice but its positioned weirdly. You come down river to it after your last rapid and if the water is up or moving along well then you really have to back paddle to make the docking pad. Also if you miss the pad the current picks up dead even with the pad and will take you on down river before you realize it.
