If you need a place to stay Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites BIRMINGHAM-IRONDALE (EAST) is a good choice; camping is available at City of Hoover RV Park. Hall Lake frequently gets much rain; March is the month that gets the most rain while October is regularly the driest month. Courtyard Birmingham Trussville is a perfect place to get some rest; playing golf is lots of fun at Roebuck Golf Course. Get yourself into a kayak and hit Cahaba River; lakes are such

This lake is so wonderful. A pretty lake like Mountain Lake next to Hall Lake is a perfect site to stop at, and Weems Gap is another good place to go to close by. Abeg Creek flows through this region. Now, you may assume that's a lot but there's even more fun stuff to do here at Hall Lake. Camping at Holiday Travel Park is always a tremendous experience, and Hall Lake is a spot with many visitors from Birmingham-Hoover.

During the summer months, highs usually are in the 80's at Hall Lake while overnight lows are frequently in the 60's. The cold days of the winter come with highs in the 50's, and nighttime lows at Hall Lake during the winter regularly dip into the 30's.

| ... four areas where the river produced what I would call true rapids. Most of these areas were short two to three foot falls followed by a run produced by the current. And one was just a long series of wide wave trains. I did enjoy the rapids but even a novice paddler with a few trips under their belt could handle this section. The only bad part was the long flats inbetween the rapids. I was lucky in that I timed my trip two days after a heavy rain so the current was nice and steady. If not for that I would have been exhausted from paddling across the flats. Luckily the scenery is good and there is plenty of wildlife to enjoy. The put in at Lovic bridge is tricky. Its a pretty steep grade and full of mud and sand. I ended up just getting in my canoe and slidding down the hill into the water. Thats a good way to flip so take a friend and you could rope your boat down much easier. The take out at Grants Mill is alot nicer. It has a nice gravel parking lot and a concrete ramp down to the river with a concrete docking pad in the water. You NEED to go look at the take out before you go on y... |

Just stopped here on our way north from the Florida panhandle.? Great stopover spot, extemely convenient to I-65.? Clean, neat campground, great bathrooms and showers, friendly, well-informed staff, and the area has all the basics travelers like us are interested in---food, shopping, RV stores, food, food, etc.? I know this would also be a nice spot for a longer stay.... |
