Go to Catfish Lake if you want to go to a nice lake. Through the summertime highs here at Catfish Lake get into the 80's. Summer overnight lows drop down to the 60's. Through the winter highs are generally in the 50's with temperatures at Catfish Lake dipping down into the 30's through winter nights. This place, Catfish Lake, it clearly has so much outdoors entertaining stuff. A lake nearby is Demopolis Lake; if you come at the right time of year, Yellowleaf Creek

| | - North Fork offers some delightful whitewater. This lake is so wonderful. Catfish Lake is not the only place nearby, Lunker Lake is a nearby lake, and there's always Belcher Lumber Company Dam to have a look at in close proximity to Catfish Lake. Catfish Lake is a quite wet place generally with a good deal of rainfall; the wettest month of the year is generally March, that's the one that rains the most while October is generally the driest month. camp at Pelham Koa Kampground while you're here at Catfish Lake, and if you're here and you like golf, you can stop at Eagle Point Golf Club. Here at Catfish Lake there are plenty of folks from Birmingham-Hoover, and some nearby water
includes Cooper Branch. This lake is so wonderful. Dry warm beds await you at Wingate by Wyndham - Birmingham. Camping is available at City of Hoover RV Park, and there are some great whitewater spots on Cahaba River. Candlewood
Suites Birmingham, Al is a great location to get some rest; Big Narrows is another perfect site to take a look at nearby.

 | ...ne was just a long series of wide wave trains. I did enjoy the rapids but even a novice paddler with a few trips under their belt could handle this section. The only bad part was the long flats inbetween the rapids. I was lucky in that I timed my trip two days after a heavy rain so the current was nice and steady. If not for that I would have been exhausted from paddling across the flats. Luckily the scenery is good and there is plenty of wildlife to enjoy. The put in at Lovic bridge is tricky. Its a pretty steep grade and full of mud and sand. I ended up just getting in my canoe and slidding down the hill into the water. Thats a good way to flip so take a friend and you could rope your boat down much easier. The take out at Grants Mill is alot nicer. It has a nice gravel parking lot and a concrete ramp down to the river with a concrete docking pad in the water. You NEED to go look at the take out before you go on your trip though. The take out is nice but its positioned weirdly. You come down river to it after your last rapid and if the water is up or moving along well then you real... |

 | Just stopped here on our way north from the Florida panhandle.? Great stopover spot, extemely convenient to I-65.? Clean, neat campground, great bathrooms and showers, friendly, well-informed staff, and the area has all the basics travelers like us are interested in---food, shopping, RV stores, food, food, etc.? I know this would also be a nice spot for a longer stay.... |
