If you came to camp City of Hoover RV Park is a pleasant site to do that, and Hampton Inn Birmingham/MTN Brook is a pleasant place to get some rest. Camping at Pelham Koa Kampground is always a magnificent experience; Birmingham Water Service Lake Dam is not far at all from Birmingham Reservoir. You might want to pay a visit to Emory Gap while you're here at Birmingham Reservoir, and if you're a golfer then a great nearby course is Highland Park Golf Course. needless to say Watkins Brook is a charming stream that is worth stopping at. This lake is so wonderful. If you get bored of Birmingham Reservoir, you could also take a look at nearby Vestavia Lake, and dry warm beds await you at
Courtyard Birmingham Homewood.
This lake is so wonderful. A lake nearby is Owens Pond. During the summer months here at Birmingham Reservoir, high temperatures usually reach the 90's with overnight lows in the 60's. All through
the wintertime the highs are ordinarily in the 50's, and winter nights come with lows in the 30's to Birmingham Reservoir.

| ...er with a few trips under their belt could handle this section. The only bad part was the long flats inbetween the rapids. I was lucky in that I timed my trip two days after a heavy rain so the current was nice and steady. If not for that I would have been exhausted from paddling across the flats. Luckily the scenery is good and there is plenty of wildlife to enjoy. The put in at Lovic bridge is tricky. Its a pretty steep grade and full of mud and sand. I ended up just getting in my canoe and slidding down the hill into the water. Thats a good way to flip so take a friend and you could rope your boat down much easier. The take out at Grants Mill is alot nicer. It has a nice gravel parking lot and a concrete ramp down to the river with a concrete docking pad in the water. You NEED to go look at the take out before you go on your trip though. The take out is nice but its positioned weirdly. You come down river to it after your last rapid and if the water is up or moving along well then you really have to back paddle to make the docking pad. Also if you miss the pad the current picks up... |

Just stopped here on our way north from the Florida panhandle.? Great stopover spot, extemely convenient to I-65.? Clean, neat campground, great bathrooms and showers, friendly, well-informed staff, and the area has all the basics travelers like us are interested in---food, shopping, RV stores, food, food, etc.? I know this would also be a nice spot for a longer stay.... |
