| | so much to do here at Belcher Lake that you need to camp here for a while, City of Hoover RV Park is a tremendous place for that, also Belcher Lake Dam is worth a visit if you're here. Lenora Lake is a pleasant lake near Belcher Lake; why not spend some time golfing at a close by golf course like Eagle Point Golf Club. the winter the highs are ordinarily in the 50's while Belcher Lake night low temperatures during the winter are in the 30's. All the water falling down from the sky makes Belcher Lake a wet place; throughout March this area sees the
most rain; the driest of the months is October. You'll meet a lot of people from Birmingham-Hoover here; Wingate by Wyndham Birmingham is a great site to get some rest. There's whitewater on Cahaba River for all you adrenaline people, and a wonderful lake like Demopolis Lake is a great place to check out.

 | Just stopped here on our way north from the Florida panhandle.? Great stopover spot, extemely convenient to I-65.? Clean, neat campground, great bathrooms and showers, friendly, well-informed staff, and the area has all the basics travelers like us are interested in---food, shopping, RV stores, food, food, etc.? I know this would also be a nice spot for a longer stay.... |

 | 10 miles away ...e areas were short two to three foot falls followed by a run produced by the current. And one was just a long series of wide wave trains. I did enjoy the rapids but even a novice paddler with a few trips under their belt could handle this section. The only bad part was the long flats inbetween the rapids. I was lucky in that I timed my trip two days after a heavy rain so the current was nice and steady. If not for that I would have been exhausted from paddling across the flats. Luckily the scenery is good and there is plenty of wildlife to enjoy. The put in at Lovic bridge is tricky. Its a pretty steep grade and full of mud and sand. I ended up just getting in my canoe and slidding down the hill into the water. Thats a good way to flip so take a friend and you could rope your boat down much easier. The take out at Grants Mill is alot nicer. It has a nice gravel parking lot and a concrete ramp down to the river with a concrete docking pad in the water. You NEED to go look at the take out before you go on your trip though. The take out is nice but its positioned weirdly. You come down ... |
