     Upper Bonnie Lake is a beautiful lake in the Talkeetna Mountains. This lake is so wonderful. If you come at the right time of year, Coal Creek offers some nice whitewater. Lakes? Sure, Rush Lake is close at hand. At Upper Bonnie Lake you don’t see much rainfall; the wettest month of the year is mostly July, that's the one that rains the most, and April meanwhile is the driest month.
Whitewater paddling is not for everyone but if it's for you then we recommend
 
   Chickaloon River, and you can go for a hike on the Chickaloon Knik Nelchina Trail. There's no way someone can get bored here in the Talkeetna Mountains. Looking for some flowing water? Try Black Shale Creek, and there are other sites here than Upper Bonnie Lake, for example Ravine Lake. For the duration of the summertime months here at Upper Bonnie Lake, high temperatures generally get into the 60's, and during the night it cools down to the 40's. During the wintertime  
               highs are mostly in the 10's; nighttime lows in the-10's for Upper Bonnie Lake.
Good hiking is available along the Chickaloon River Trail.

My family built the cabin about 3 miles off the hwy. in '57 overlooking the river.  The creek at the bottom of the hill below the cabin is Gin Creek, named after my mom (Ginger).  We've hiked about 12 miles up the trail and all over the area.  Many fond memories....
