In case you don’t have a problem getting drenched, you can always       go whitewater paddling on Portage River; Portage Valley RV Park and Cabin Rentals is a magnificent local campground. And that's not all you can do here in the Chugach Mountains. The top of Begich Peak is easily observed from Portage Lake; a brilliant close by hotel is The Hotel Alyeska. For the period of the days of summer at Portage Lake highs are regularly in the 60's. All through the moonlight hours it's usually in the 40's. Through the winter highs are in                  the 20's; overnight lows through the wintertime for Portage Lake tend to be in the 10's. Portage Lake is located in the Chugach Mountains.
