Near Island Lake you stumble on the Lake Elsner Trail which is a tremendous hiking trail; a visit to Wrangell - St Elias National Park & Preserve is worthwhile. This spot is unbeatable, just look at all the cool things to do near Island Lake. This lake is so wonderful. Glacier River has a great whitewater       paddling spot close by; not far from Island Lake you'll stumble on Cabin Lake which is a lovely lake. Summertime highs at Island Lake mostly tend to be in the 60's. During the moonlight hours it's typically in the 40's. Daytime highs during the wintertime are in the 30's, and after the sun is down during the wintertime temperatures at Island Lake plunge into the 10's. Island Lake is one of the lakes here in the Chugach Mountains. Paddling on Power Creek                  is so much fun; there are brilliant spots to discover along the Eyak Trail. Island Lake is a wet place that gets a lot of precipitation; the month of September is the wettest with most of the rain; the driest of the months is July. Going for a hike on the Sheridan Mountain Trail is always a good adventure.
