All the outdoors fun things in the Chugach Mountains will keep you coming back repeatedly. Don't leave Island Lake without first going for a hike along the Eyak Trail, and paddling on Power Creek is so much fun. Going for a hike on the Lake Elsner Trail is always a fine adventure; you       can go for a hike on the Sheridan Mountain Trail. This lake is so wonderful. Do stop by Middle Lake in the neighborhood of Island Lake, it's a scenic lake, and whitewater paddling is pleasant on Glacier River. Cabin Lake is a nearby lake that you could stop at, and do pay a visit to Wrangell - St Elias National Park & Preserve while you're here at Island Lake. Now, you may imagine that's plenty but there's even more enjoyable stuff to do here at Island                  Lake. At Island Lake during the summer months highs are in the 60's while overnight lows are usually in the 40's. For the period of the winter the highs are regularly in the 30's with temperatures at Island Lake dipping down into the 10's throughout winter nights.
