Going for a hike on the Paradise Valley Trail is always a great adventure; since you might be in a lake visiting mood you can always go to close by Vagt Lake. The yearly rainfall here at Grant Lake is about average; the wettest month of the year is generally October, that's the one that rains the most while May is ordinarily the driest month. There's so much to do here at Grant Lake that you need to camp here for a while, Primrose Landing Campground is a great
place for that, and don't forget to take a great little journey to Trail Creek. This lake is so wonderful. If you came to camp Bertha Creek Campground is a fine site to do that, and get yourself into a kayak and hit Sixmile River.
Life's too short to enjoy all the cool things right next door to Grant Lake. Near Grant Lake you find the Johnson Pass Trail which is a great hiking trail. Lakes? Sure, Ptarmigan Lake is in close proximity. There is a great hiking

trail near Grant Lake called the Grant Lake Trail; after a long day outdoors Trail Lake Lodge is a pleasant spot to spend a night or two. The warmest time of the year brings highs in the 60's to Grant Lake, and during the night it cools down to the 40's. Throughout the winter the highs are usually in the 20's, and after the sun is down during the winter temperatures at Grant Lake plunge into the 10's.
This lake is so wonderful. Kenai Fjords National Park is one of the destinations close to Grant Lake that are wonderful to go to. If you come at the right time of year, Canyon Creek offers some nice whitewater, and if you need a spot to stay Alaska Hamptons is a tremendous choice.

Johnson Pass Trail
Is johnson Creek Suitable to float down in a small paddle boat?  Thanks...As a Kenai Peninsula hiker and resident, I can say that Johnson Pass Trail is a winner. It's a relatively easy, well-established trail, through beautiful alpine terrain (especially on the north side of the pass). I've done the traverse both as a long 23-mile day hike, and as a 2-day backpack. There are no established campgrounds on the trail - make your own site and leave no trace. Water is available in streams and lakes pretty much all along the trail - but filter or treat all Alaska's water. I recommend going from North to South, especially if you do it as a one-day mega hike. It's also a favorite for mountain bikers....

Johnson Lake is is pure bliss.  only electric motors are allowed & like all Alaskan lakes, no live bait.  Is stocked w/trout, but that doesn't mean they are stupid fish! sorry about the poor picture, but gives you an idea...
Johnsons Lake is an amazing place for family camping. The lake is great to swim in and has alot of fish to catch....

Took the hike from the Seward highway and it was a very well maintained trail and good parking lot with even bathrooms. The hike was very intense and switch backed multiple times. Tiny streams cross your path. Once up top it is beautiful. After some time walking threw the alpine, you come across a trail which to the left take you to the lake and to the right takes you to the bear box and camping area. It's a stocked lake so bring your rod....

Sixmile River
12 miles away
I did 6 mile this summer, what a rush!!!  Some things to know... it is a series of three canyons, the first two are considered more class IV but the third canyon is definitley class V.  There are two companies that operate on the river, Chugach Outdoor and Nova.  I went with Chugach but I hear that they are both good.  I reccomend (and give an AWA, shout out to) the guides ''Pizza'' and ''Charlie'' from Chugach outdoor, great people!  The canyons are very narrow.  Oh and the last thing.  You have to wear a dry suit and complete a swim test wearing it (in the river) before you can go.  The water is frigid and there is no room for error.  Make sure to get a suit with a good neck gasket.  Mine was loose and water rushed in the second I started swimming brrrr!  If you're looking for a great place to stay check out Alaska Wildland Adventures in Cooper Landing....
