This lake is so wonderful. Crow Glacier is an exciting spot to stop by while at Crystal Lake; since you're here, you might as well take a look at Crow Pass. Just can't get enough of Crystal Lake. Gold Miners Hotel is a pleasant spot to get some rest. Lakes? Sure, Luebner Lake is in the vicinity. Crystal Lake is pretty dry mostly; September is the month that gets the most rain; April on the other hand is the driest. All year is a pleasant time in the Chugach

Since you might be in a lake visiting mood you can always stop by nearby Eklutna Lake. You'll need more than a day to explore everything Crystal Lake has to offer, you can camp at Portage Valley RV Park and Cabin Rentals. There's
so much to do here at Crystal Lake that you need to camp here for a while, Bertha Creek Campground is a fine place for that, and Alyeska is a great local ski area. So much enjoyable stuff to do here in the Chugach Mountains,
too great to be true. There are some great whitewater spots on Portage River; Barnes Mountain is pretty and can be spotted from here. This lake is so wonderful. A good close by hotel is The Hotel Alyeska, and get yourself into a kayak and hit Eagle River.

Sixmile River
 | 19 miles away I did 6 mile this summer, what a rush!!! Some things to know... it is a series of three canyons, the first two are considered more class IV but the third canyon is definitley class V. There are two companies that operate on the river, Chugach Outdoor and Nova. I went with Chugach but I hear that they are both good. I reccomend (and give an AWA, shout out to) the guides ''Pizza'' and ''Charlie'' from Chugach outdoor, great people! The canyons are very narrow. Oh and the last thing. You have to wear a dry suit and complete a swim test wearing it (in the river) before you can go. The water is frigid and there is no room for error. Make sure to get a suit with a good neck gasket. Mine was loose and water rushed in the second I started swimming brrrr! If you're looking for a great place to stay check out Alaska Wildland Adventures in Cooper Landing.... |
Alyeska
 | 22 miles away 7 PHOTOS I think Alyeska has the highest elevation drop in Alaska but I could be wrong. Needless to say we're pretty ok with snow up here in Alaska, there's so much snow here you can't believe it. The skiing is perfect perfect! I cannot get enough of this mountain ever! Do wear plenty of clothes though.... |
