Jones Beach, Essex County, New York   Jones Beach is not an unbelievably visited slice of shore, but it is a cool place for the whole family. A journey to New York is not complete without some time spent on the beach. There are campgrounds reasonably near the beach where you can raise that tent of yours. Not too many places to stay in close proximity, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, and if you make reservations ahead of going you're all set. At last, beach time is here again; Jones Beach in Essex County, New York is a glorious location for getting out. This piece of coast is always     delightful. There are more endeavors here other than simply hanging out at the beach such as boating, hiking, fishing, swimming, and whitewater paddling, so it's not possible to get bored. On a perfect day at Jones Beach you can take a hike along the Elk Lake Marcy Trail, and why not take a little journey to Clear Pond Inlet while you're here. If the weather is good here at Jones Beach, you can go for a hike along the Dix Trail, and glide down the rapids of The Branch in a kayak. There is a tremendous hiking trail close to Jones Beach called the Dividing Ridge Trail, and if you're here you ought to go to Duck Hole. If you come at the right time of year, Schroon River offers some magnificent whitewater; you have to go to Loon Bay when you're here. Now, you may imagine that's a heap but there's even more amusing stuff to do here   at Jones Beach. The sight of beautiful Clear Pond Mountain near Jones Beach is great. From a rainfall point of view Jones Beach is a relatively common place; August is when you get the most rain here, and February is when it's the driest. Summertime highs at Jones Beach commonly tend to be in the 70's. Summer night lows sink down to the 50's. The winter comes with highs in the 20's with temperatures at Jones Beach dipping down into the 0's through winter nights.
