There's so much cool stuff to do close to Wreck Beach including hiking, fishing, whitewater paddling, swimming, and boating, so you may perhaps stay for a while. The way the water converges with such a stunning segment of coast is quite a sight. For all you camping people there are campgrounds in the neighborhood. If you come at the right time of year, Big Sur River offers some pleasant whitewater, and why not a little side spree to Pfeffer-Redwood Creek. At Wreck Beach you always meet someone from Salinas, and don't leave without going to Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park. Daytime highs during the winter are in the 50's while the cold winter nights at Wreck Beach are in the 40's. Not much precipitation falls here at Wreck Beach; January is when you get the most rain here, and the driest month is July.
